Verizon Users, your call records are being recorded

Hey Verizon users, all your calls are being logged and given to the government. In a court order, that prohibits Verizon from discussing its existence, issued by Judge Roger Vinson of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, Verizon must “on an ongoing daily basis” give the National Security Agency “call detail records”. The order has been issued under Section 215 of the Patriot Act and has been going since April 25 of 2013.

As the Electronic Frontier Foundation put it, “the order gave the NSA a record of every Verizon customer’s call history — every call made, the location of the phone, the time of the call, the duration of the call, and other “identifying information” for the phone and call”. It doesn’t matter who you are, as the logs are being collected from everybody. However, the logs will expire and be removed unless extended in July.

According to Reuters, an senior Obama administration official defended the order saying that the logs are “a critical tool in protecting the nation from terrorist threats to the United States” and it “allows counter terrorism personnel to discover whether known or suspected terrorists have been in contact with other persons who may be engaged in terrorist activities”. So much for the most transparent administration ever.

Just think though, right now the phone call your making is being logged and given to the NSA. This isn’t a crazy talk or a conspiracy, this is all facts.
